WestJet celebrates 1st anniversary of service at the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF)
Waterloo Region - Today the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) and WestJet will celebrate the first anniversary of their daily non-stop service to Calgary providing a direct link to Western Canada.
"WestJet has transformed the airport and enhanced the community not only with their Calgary service, but also with their contributions to local charities and education partners," said Jeff Schelling, Manager of Airport Development for the Region of Waterloo International Airport. "We wish the entire WestJet team continued success on this, their 1st Anniversary at YKF - may this be the first of many."
Since 2005, guest traffic at the Airport has increased by over 400 per cent and the latest expansion at the Airport has been the most extensive since the building was constructed. The project, which focuses on improving guest service, will enhance numerous areas of the operation including airline check-in, security screening, departure lounge and the construction of a dedicated domestic arrivals area complete with baggage carousel. Construction is scheduled for completion this summer.
"We are delighted to be celebrating one year of service with the people of Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge," said Bob Cummings, WestJet's Executive Vice-President, Guest Experience and Marketing. "Our modern fleet of aircraft and award-winning guest experience has been well received by the community and we are confident the people of this region will continue to fly with WestJet."
WestJet operates North America's most modern fleet of any large commercial airline, comprised of 74 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft equipped with more legroom, leather seats and live seatback television.
