Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) ranked the 10th Busiest Airport in Canada in July 2012

Waterloo Region  Statistics Canada has ranked the Region of Waterloo
International Airport as the 10th busiest Airport in Canada according to their Aircraft Movement Statistics report for July 2012 released today.  The report tracks aircraft movements (a take off or a landing) and is used by Transport Canada and NAV CANADA for measuring the workload of air traffic controllers, aircraft activity on air routes and runway utilization. In July of 2012 the airport recorded 12,401 aircraft movements, or an average of 400 a day, the highest single month of activity in four years.  In 2011, there were a total of 96,801 aircraft movements and over 105,000 passengers travelling through the airport.  In 2012 we are expecting passenger traffic will increase by nearly 25 per cent and aircraft movements by 15 per cent.

“Airports benchmark themselves two ways; using total passenger numbers and total aircraft movements.  The addition of American Eagle, fantastic flying weather and one of the largest flying schools in the country have made July a record breaking month for us on both counts,” said Chris Wood, General Manager at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.  “We continue to discuss possible options with our airline partners to increase the number of non-stop destinations available from Waterloo Region.  With the recent addition of our twice daily all jet Chicago service, airlines have a renewed interest in our community, and we look forward to announcing additional air service in the near future for our passengers.”

The Region of Waterloo International Airport is easy to navigate with: complimentary baggage carts, FREE high-speed wireless internet; licensed Aviator departure lounge café, operated by Edelweiss (Valid boarding pass required); National, AVIS and Hertz car rentals available on-site and reasonable parking rates of just $6.00 per day.  No traffic jams or lost vehicles, just convenient, fast and friendly air service.
