Mayor of Woolwich to Tandem Parachute with the Canadian Forces Parachute Team, the SkyHawks
Breslau, Ontario – The Waterloo Air Show will never be the same. Today, Todd Cowan, the Mayor of the Township of Woolwich, will take part in a tandem parachute jump at the Region of Waterloo International Airport with the Canadian Forces Parachute Team, the SkyHawks. The jump scheduled to take place at approximately 11:35 a.m. from a height of 12,500 is just one component of the practice for this weekend’s air show at the Airport.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a chance to highlight Woolwich Township, the Airport and the Waterloo Air Show”. Mayor Cowan also says that he is “thrilled and honoured to have the chance to join the SkyHawks”.
Tandem parachuting refers to a type of skydiving where a guest skydiver is connected to a tandem instructor by a harness. The instructor guides the guest through the entire jump; from exit through freefall, piloting the canopy, and landing.
The SkyHawks are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and are comprised of highly professional, skilled, and experienced soldiers from the Canadian Forces. The team travels around the world, participating in celebrations and parachute performances. Acting as Goodwill Ambassadors for Canada, they evoke pride and patriotism as they descend from the sky underneath parachutes designed as Canadian Flags. The SkyHawks are particularly renowned for their signature Canopy Relative Work (CRW) performance, an aerobatic performance that highlights their technical expertise and thrilling parachute formations.
