Waterloo Region, ON – Join the Region of Waterloo International Airport on Saturday August 22, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the 2015 Aviation Fun Day.
Explore the airport property and see how the aviation industry operates behind-the-scenes. This is a unique opportunity for families and aviation-enthusiasts to learn about the businesses located at the airport and to meet the professionals and pilots who work in the local aviation industry.
See vintage airplanes, jets and helicopters including aircraft from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum at the static displays. Try a flight simulator, watch a drone demonstration and see the equipment used every day to keep the runways safe and clean. Visit aviation-related displays to learn about the science behind flight, meet pilots from the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) and the Recreational Aircraft Association (RAA) and find out what they like to fly. Scenic airplane and helicopter flights are also available for an additional fee.
Activities and exhibits take place at locations around the airport property including the Air Terminal Building, Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre (WWFC), Cadet Youth Development Centre and on Apron 4, an area that is usually restricted to the public, where visitors can get up close to aircraft used for business, charter and general aviation purposes.
“The airport community is excited to welcome the public to the Region of Waterloo International Airport and provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into what happens here every day,” said Chris Wood, General Manager of the Airport. “We feel that it is important to provide every opportunity to welcome the community to their airport and we hope it may inspire a child or young adult to fall in love with aviation, like we all did. Our airport’s partners are pleased to be participating in this event, and we hope you will enjoy the day exploring your hometown airport.”
The Airport is also pleased to be working with the Waterloo Running Series for the 1st Annual Runway Run. This certified two mile chip-timed race or two mile fun run/walk takes place on the Airport’s primary runway and is great for runners, joggers, walkers and families of all ages and abilities. The Runway Run begins at 9:00 a.m. Additional fees apply to participate. Visit runwaterloo.com for complete details and to register.
