Aviation Fun Day at the Region of Waterloo International Airport - Saturday August 26, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Rain or Shine)
Waterloo Region, ON – Did you know the Waterloo Warbirds’ T-33 Mako Shark is powered by a Nene 10 engine licensed by Rolls Royce or that the Region of Waterloo International Airport fire truck holds 5,500 litres of water? Grab your walking shoes and explore the airport on foot at the 3rd annual Aviation Fun Day this Saturday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Meet the people behind-the-scenes at your local airport and learn how the aviation industry works. View demonstrations and displays in four locations: Region of Waterloo International Airport Air Terminal Building; Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre; Royal Canadian Air Cadet Youth Development Centre; and, Apron 4 - an area usually restricted to the public.
This is a free event. In lieu of an admission fee, donations will be accepted for the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. To date this event has raised $3,590 dollars and collected 3,538 pounds of food to help fill warehouse shelves!
Some of the aircraft on display* include:
- Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s – DC-3, Chipmunk and Norseman
- Great Lakes Helicopter’s – Robinson R22 Beta and Robinson R44 Raven
- Ministry of Natural Resources – Twin Otter
- Ornge Air Ambulance’s – Agusta Westland helicopter
- Royal Canadian Air Force – CT155 Hawk and CT156 Harvard
- Waterloo Warbirds’ – T-33 Mako Shark, Aero L-29 Delfin, MIG-15 UTI and Vampire

- 3D print technology course for Air Cadets, presented by Honeywell Aerospace
- “Portraits of Honour” featuring the 158 Canadian Soldiers who have lost their lives in Afghanistan
- Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre ALSIM flight simulator experience
- Living in the Age of Airplanes by National Geographic movie (hourly starting at 10:30 a.m.)
- Canada Border Services Agency Detector Dog Handler and Jackson
- “Fly from Home!” Star Wars 501st Canadian Garrison photo booth
- Canadian Owners and Pilots Association
- Region of Waterloo International Airport fire truck demonstration
