Aviation Fun Day at the Region of Waterloo International Airport - Saturday August 20, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain or Shine) Free Admission

Waterloo Region, ON – Did you know the Region of Waterloo International Airport is the busiest general aviation airport in Ontario? Or that the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre is one of the top flight training schools in Canada?  Grab your walking shoes and explore the airport on foot where you will find out more about these and other local businesses at the 2nd annual Aviation Fun Day which takes place on Saturday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is your chance to meet the people behind-the-scenes and learn how the aviation industry operates.  Visit aviation-related displays in the Airport’s Terminal Building, Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Youth Development Centre, and see unique and vintage aircraft up close on Apron IV, an area usually restricted to the public.

Some of the aircraft on display* include:

*Aircraft subject to change.

Fly a simulator, watch an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) demo and see the equipment used daily at the airport to keep the runways safe and clean. Have your picture taken with a WestJet pilot – who learned to fly here – and meet other pilots from the local Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA Flight 26) and the Recreational Aircraft Association and find out why they love to fly!  For an additional fee you can also take a scenic airplane or helicopter flight.

“We want the public to know more about what we do and how the great businesses here also support our local aeronautical industry” said Chris Wood, Airport General Manager. “Opening our doors for a day full of free activities, displays and demonstrations allows us to tell our story and show the community what they would not normally get a chance to see – it is the ideal way to get people excited about their airport and perhaps inspire the next generation of aviators.”

In addition to the aircraft on display visitors will see classic cars and motorcycles or they can begin their morning with Run Waterloo’s 2nd annual Runway Run. This certified two mile chip-timed race or fun run/walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and takes place on the Airport’s runway. Visit Run Waterloo to register. (Additional fees apply)
