Aviation Fun Day Achieved Record Support for Local Food Banks!
Waterloo Region, ON – The Region of Waterloo International Airport and organizers of Aviation Fun Day would like thank everyone who volunteered their time, aircraft and expertise to make our third annual event a success!
“The airport community created Aviation Fun Day to inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts,” said Chris Wood, General Manager of the Region of Waterloo International Airport. “It is a fantastic example of what collaboration can do for our community. I’d like to thank the YKF family who worked behind-the-scenes and everyone that came out to support our local food banks.”
Once again, organizers collected donations for the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. In total, Aviation Fun Day 2017 collected 2,451 pounds of food and $4,545 dollars in cash! The total includes funds collected onsite, a donation from Great Lakes Helicopter and $2,350 raised by Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre’s silent auction.
To date, Aviation Fun Day has collected 5,989 pounds of food raised $9,786 dollars. All to help the one in 20 households in Waterloo Region that needs food assistance!
“What a great example of collaboration! Aviation Fun Day’s many partners made the day a success while helping a cause that’s important to them,” noted Wendi Campbell, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. “The food and funds raised at this event will be put to good use by another example of collaboration – our Community Food Assistance Network. More than 100 agencies and programs, with Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region at the centre of the Network, work together to provide meals, shelter and other vital services. Thank you to all the participants, organizers, volunteers and aviation enthusiasts for their kindness.”
Airport employees and tenants including the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association Flight 26, Flite Line Services, Great Lakes Helicopter, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Youth Development Centre, Waterloo Warbirds and the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre worked together to organize Aviation Fun Day.
“Our sincere thanks to the generous donors, volunteers and all those at the Region of Waterloo International Airport for their support during Aviation Fun Day,” said Pat Singleton, Executive Director of the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank. We cannot do this work alone and believe that everyone has a role in ending hunger in our community. The food and money collected will help fill the shelves and cupboards of our food bank. In turn it will help our families by lessening their burdens during the holiday season and beyond. We are grateful for this support.”
Aviation Fun Day is a free event that allows people to explore the airport on foot and learn about the aviation industry. The event took place on Saturday August 26 at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
