Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) Service Update

Waterloo Region, ON – As many Regional and Municipal buildings and programs close, the Region of Waterloo International Airport has been designated as critical infrastructure and will remain open.

Operational Update:

  • The Air Terminal Building will continue to operate with enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures in place.
  • WestJet Airlines Calgary, Alberta service continues to operate with enhanced cleaning and sanitization measures. As flight details are changing rapidly, we ask that you use your flight number to check your flight status online before heading to the airport. https://ms.spr.ly/6013Tj77S
  • Sunwing airlines are offering any available northbound seats on their repatriation flights to stranded Canadians, free of charge – including non-Sunwing customers. For more information, please visit: https://bit.ly/3bb0RXM
  • Canada Border Services Agency continues to process private aircraft and commercial airline passengers. Travellers returning to Canada are being instructed to self-isolate for 14 days. This includes Sunwing passengers returning from Cancun, Mexico and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
  • Airport Security remain on duty 24 hours, seven days a week.
  • The Airport Operations Team and Chris Wood, Airport General Manager remain onsite to address changing regulations and to help maintain safe operations.
  • NAV Canada Air Traffic Control Tower remains open.
  • Our Primary Runway remains open and will continue to remain open.
  • Fixed Base Operators – Chartright Air Services and Fliteline Services remain open.
  • Summit Fuel Service / World Fuels – Have reduced operational hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with after hours, on-call service available.
  • Passengers with questions should contact your airline as information may be rapidly changing. Call volumes are high: Please call only if your travel is within 72 hours.

Closures and Service Suspensions:

  • Under the direction of the Region of Waterloo, the Airport Administration office will remain closed until Monday, April 6, 2020. All non-essential airport authority staff are working remotely from home. If you have questions or concerns please contact 519-648-2256 or email pdlairportadmin@regionofwaterloo.ca.
  • Sunwing Airlines have suspended all southbound flights from March 17 to April 9, 2020 to concentrate resources on returning customers home safely. This includes our Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic flights.
  • Our Secondary Runway and Taxiway B will close Sunday, March 22, 2020 for approximately one month to accommodate parking of commercial aircraft grounded in response to the global pandemic.
  • Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre operations suspended until April 3, 2020.
